James is both president and architect of his own architechture/engineering company, where he has designed various types of structures since 1954. He is also a member of the American Institute of Architects, Mun Lun School, Sun Ming Ting Association, Chung Shan Association, Community Church of Honolulu, and a trustee of Manoa Cemetery.
