NARCISSUS FESTIVAL

Narcissus Queen Pageant

The colorful pageantry that has come to symbolize the annual Narcissus Festival had its simple beginnings in the year 1950.

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce initially organized the event to preserve and showcase Chinese art and culture, while promoting commerce at a time when political turmoil in Asia was hindering trade in Hawaii.

HEAR FROM OUR COMMUNITY

“So many of our members voluntarily contribute so much to our mission “…to preserve our rich cultural heritage and to encourage civic responsibility, primarily through education and outreach.” I’m humbled to have been recognized with the 2018 Outstanding Chamber Volunteer Award and I am committed more than ever to this community that has brought me so much joy and opportunities.”

- Katherine Wu Lococo

"When I first joined the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii some 20 years ago, I never imagined that the new friends I will meet then are still my good friends and whose ideas and opinions are available for me to tap till today.  This network of talent from all the diverse industries and background provide a very rich resource then and today.  The very interesting part of this is that we are not just interactive among the Chinese but our greater Hawaii community.  This Chinese Chamber of Hawaii membership provides this environment of super rich resources.  The very interesting part of this is that we are interactive with not just the Chinese ethnic groups but with the entire Hawaii community. I was so busy and hesitant when I was first asked to join then and today I can say that it has been one of my better decisions.”

- Victor Lim

“My introduction to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii began as a contestant and 2nd Princess in the Narcissus Queen Pageant; the classes and life experiences I’ve had, here within our Hawaii Chinese community and abroad in mainland China, was a key factor in being able to reignite my passion for learning about my culture and appreciate the beautiful nuances that shape my identity. The CCCH has not only implanted a deep appreciation of our history within me, but has also given me the agency to make a difference in my community through the Young Professionals organization. I am so grateful that one choice has lead me to so many open doors that have proved fruitful in all aspects of my life.”
